AutoPak Engineering is a leading manufacturer of packaging and automation equipment and is currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist. The person will be responsible for providing support in all areas of human resources, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits, training, payroll, and legal compliance. They will serve as a key resource for employees and managers, answering questions and promoting a productive and positive work environment, ensuring that practices are aligned with internal policies and current labor laws.
Responsibilities:
Manage and ensure that human resources files are complete, up-to-date, accurate, and available in a timely manner.
Monitor proper compliance with human resources policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
Coordinate and execute recruitment and selection processes, including participation in job fairs and establishing links with universities and technical institutions to strengthen talent attraction.
Organize and facilitate the induction process for new employees.
Process approved vacation and sick leave requests, maintaining adequate control over them.
Prepares and analyzes reports on attendance, absenteeism, salary changes, and other relevant indicators to support management decision-making.
Assists in the administration of the performance evaluation process.
Carries out initiatives that promote well-being and team integration, such as internal activities or recognition programs.
Responds to employee inquiries and situations, offering initial guidance and referring cases that require additional intervention to the Human Resources Manager.
Collaborate with the Department of Labor and other government agencies in personnel-related investigations or audits.
Processes employee payroll accurately and on time, including calculations of hours, deductions, and benefits.

Keep the employee database in the payroll system up to date (new hires, terminations, salary changes, leaves of absence, etc.).
Verify compliance with applicable labor and tax laws (withholdings, taxes, statutory benefits).
Generate and review payroll reports, confirming their accuracy before approval and payment.
Generates and submits the retirement plan report on the designated provider's platform.
Generates quarterly and annual reports such as W-2 and 480 forms, including performing audits prior to submitting them to the payroll system.
Respond to staff inquiries related to payroll payments, deductions, or receipts.
Collaborate with the occupational safety specialist to develop and review safety policies and procedures from a Human Resources perspective.
Suggest and implement initiatives aimed at staff well-being, motivation, and retention in coordination with area leaders.
Other duties may be assigned as required by operational needs.

Required experience:
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resources functions.
Experience using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), payroll systems, and office applications (Microsoft Office).
Required Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
Previous experience in industrial or manufacturing environments will be considered an added value.
Proficiency in Human Resources processes, recruitment and selection, employee relations, training, payroll, and legal compliance.
Basic knowledge of applicable labor laws in Puerto Rico.
